Love over gold
Love Over Gold (2013) is a draft game about modern-day treasure hunters, loosely inspired by the Uncharted series of video games and the game Apocalypse World by D. Vincent Baker & Meguey Baker. Despite it being an unfinished draft that’s only been playtested a handful of times, Love Over Gold has a little bit of a cult following in certain indie games circles. I’d like to come back and revisit it someday, with a slightly different approach.
One of my main goals was to try to subvert or at least highlight the way that pulpy treasure-hunting narratives tend to be tacitly or explicitly celebratory of colonialism and the pillaging of various people’s creative works and cultural heritage by white “heroes.” But there’s only hints of that here in this draft, so that aspect would need much more development if and when I return to this project.
